The metropolis is located on the large natural bay of <a title=\"Port Phillip\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Port_Phillip\">Port Phillip<\/a>and expands into the hinterlands towards the <a title=\"Dandenong Ranges\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dandenong_Ranges\">Dandenong<\/a> and <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Macedon Ranges\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Macedon_Ranges\">Macedon<\/a> mountain ranges, <a title=\"Mornington Peninsula\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mornington_Peninsula\">Mornington Peninsula<\/a> and <a title=\"Yarra Valley\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yarra_Valley\">Yarra Valley<\/a>.
